Swedish government agencies in the field of public health
Beside the Swedish National Institute of Public Health, there are at least four national governmental agencies in Sweden working primarily with issues concerning public health:
- The National Board of Health and Welfare is responsible for issues related to health and medical care.
- Issues directly related to infectious diseases are handled by The Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control whose remit is to monitor the epidemiological situation in Sweden.
- Issues concerning food safety and nutritional recommendations are primarily handled by the National Food Administration, the central administrative authority for matters concerning food.
- The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, works with safety promotion, emergency prevention and emergency response, and in the event of an emergency, limits injury and damage.
