Sexuality and reproductive health - Objective domain 8
Sweden has a very long tradition of conducting information campaigns on the subject of sexuality and relationships, an area regarded as a cornerstone in public health work.
The opportunity to have a safe and secure sexuality is fundamental to the individual's perception of health and well-being. Therefore, society must safeguard areas such as sex and relationship education, youth clinic activities, family planning and maternity care.
Secure sexuality, free from prejudice, discrimination, coercion and violence, is healthy. Society’s view of sexuality determines, for instance, if people who are homosexual or bisexual are exposed to prejudice and discrimination – with illness as a result.
In this objective domain, work is being done to develop and distribute knowledge about evidence-based methods (efforts that have been controlled against high-quality research and that have proven to give results) to work for safe and secure sexuality and good reproductive health. Also included in this work, is the analysis, refinement and compilation of scientific literature concerning determinants of sexual and reproductive health as well as indicators for follow-up.
