Overweight and obesity

Obesity and overweight are accompanied by a number of health problems with an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease, type-2 diabetes, stroke, diseases affecting motor organs and some types of cancer including colon cancer.

  Obesity develops through a combination of lifestyle, environmental factors and heredity. Our eating habits and level of physical activity are of central importance. A high level of consumption of energy-rich foods and sweetened beverages relative to energy expenditure is an important cause of overweight.

The questions about height and weight form the basis of calculations of Body Mass Index (BMI) with which monitors the prevalence of overweight and obesity. BMI, weight (in kg) divided by height squared (m2), is the method that best reflects the amount of body fat.
