Everyone who smokes is harmed by smoking and some 40 diseases, of which several are fatal, are directly related to smoking. The most common are cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer and several other kinds of cancer.

One out of two smokers dies prematurely from tobacco use, losing seven to eight years of their life expectancy on average. Passive smoking is also harmful.
