Abstract submission for Oral sessions, Symposia and Workshops is closed as of January 17, 2010. However, The Scientific and Clinical Practice Organizing Committee invites and encourages additional poster submissions from members of the international scientific and practitioner community. Please submit your poster abstract by April 15, 2010. Final decisions on acceptance of poster abstracts will be communicated by April 30, 2010.
Presentation formats
Please submit your poster abstract according to the oral presentation/poster format specified below. Posters can be research- or clinical practice-oriented.
Review and acceptance of abstracts
Poster abstracts will be reviewed by April 30, 2010. Please note that presenting authors must register for the conference.
Submission of abstracts
Abstracts must be written in English. The number of words and suggested headings for each abstract is detailed below. All abstracts must be submitted electronically through the congress website (see menu).
The program will feature
Symposia
Symposia include three to four thematically related presentations during 60 to 90 minute sessions. They bring together various experts who present current state-of-the-art research, systematic reviews, clinical trials or techniques. The symposium moderator contacts all presenting authors ahead of time and secures their commitment to participate in the symposium and register for the conference. The moderator then submits an abstract of up to 500 words.
The abstract should include a detailed description of the symposium topic (up to 100 words), and then briefly describe each presentation (up to 100 words per presentation), using the standard headings for oral presentations (Background, Aim, Method, Results, Discussion/conclusions).
Oral presentations with a scientific or clinical practice focus
Oral sessions will last for 90 minutes with space for four to six presentations. Presenters submit an abstract of up to 250 words with the following specified headings:
• Background
• Aim
• Method(s)
• Results
• Discussion/conclusions
Oral presentations with a scientific focus should present empirical research or theory that in some way relates to Motivational Interviewing or related areas.
Oral presentations with a clinical practice focus should present case reports or clinical method in a “best practice” spirit, based on the presenter’s clinical experience.
The Scientific and Clinical Practice Committee will try to accommodate requests for oral presentations, but reserves the right to prescribe another format (e.g., poster) if required.
Posters
Posters need to be in a 70 cm x 100 cm standing format. Presenters submit an abstract of up to 250 words with specified headings. See under Oral presentations above for abstract instructions regarding posters with a scientific or clinical practice focus.
Workshops with a research- or clinical practice focus
Workshops will be organized in half-day sessions of 1,5 to 3 hours and will be oriented towards issues in MI-related research as well as clinical practice.
For workshops, presenters need to submit an abstract of up to 250 words under the following headings:
• Workshop topic (What is the workshop about?)
• Workshop methodology (How are you going to teach the topic?)
• Learning objectives (What will your participants learn?)
Workshops with a research focus will provide MI-related knowledge that can stimulate participants’ future research activities.
Workshops with a clinical practice focus will teach MI-related skills that will enhance participants’ future clinical activities.
