EU Presidency - Our assignments

As of 1 July up to 31 December, 2009, Sweden held the Presidency of the European Union.

During its Presidency, the Government gave priority to the following issues in the fields of health and social affairs:

  • preparedness for pandemic influenza
  • effective use of medicinal products
  • healthy and dignified ageing
  • access to effective antibacterials
  • prevention of alcohol-related harm
  • combating poverty and social exclusion
  • labour market inclusion
  • eHealth for improved safety for patients receiving care in another EU country
  • promotion of the rights of the child
  • rights of patients to health, medical and dental care in another EU country.

The National Institute of Public Health's assignments

During the Swedish Presidency the National Institute of Public Health was actively involved in the following activities in the field of public health. The Institute also participates in other events.
