Healthy ageing in Europe – lessons learnt and ways forward

Conference on the experiences of working with issues within the healthy ageing field and how to continue within the areas of policy, practice and research. Stockholm the 22nd-23rd of October 2009

During the Swedish EU presidency, the field of healthy and active ageing will be one of the priority issues. Utilizing the results and experiences from the EU-funded Healthy Ageing project, the Swedish National Institute of Public Health (SNIPH) will invite participants to a conference which aims to stimulate health promoting activities directed towards older people.

Since the Healthy Ageing project ended in 2007, there has been a lack of a comprehensive follow-up regarding the implementation of the project’s recommendations. In collaboration with the Healthy Ageing Special Interest Group, SNIPH has therefore recently completed a review across European countries mapping the implementation of the project’s recommendations as well as identifying barriers and facilitators within field.

The objectives of the conference are to:

  • provide opportunities for the exchange of experiences concerning both barriers and facilitators in health promotion work for older people
  • discuss how to move forward within the areas of policy, practice and research
  • prioritise the issue of healthy ageing.

Invited participants will be practitioners from European countries as well as representatives from the European Commission, European Parliament and NGOs.
