“Turning Public Health Science into policy - what good can come from research?”

2010-04-19

In cooperation with The Swedish National Institute for Public Health, FAS arranged on March 25 a conference on Public Health research and its relevance for policymakers. The aim was to shed light on the communication process between researchers and policymakers, and to discuss the production of knowledge relevant to politicians as well as to public health practitioners.

A total of 90 participants were presented with different perspectives on the associations between policy, practice and research, illustrated by lectures from some of the most prominent researchers within the Nordic region.

The conference was introduced by the Director for The Swedish National Institute for Public Health, Sarah Wamala. She expressed an aim to integrate Swedish Public Health research into current public health policy work, more than is currently at hand, but also to integrate relevant research results from this area into working life.

The conference concluded with a panel discussion including politicians, researchers and practitioners from central Swedish authorities, where the main topic was the communication of research results in an easy-to-access format alongside the problem of researchers and politicians using different terminologies around common issues.
